OVERDRIVE 9 - 19<br />

8. Install synchronizer shift sleeve hub lock ring on end of<br />

mainshaft using lock ring pliers.<br />

9. Apply a coating of viscous grease td mainshaft pilot<br />

bearing recess end of main drive gear. Insert the sixteen<br />

individual rollers comprising the pilot bearing.<br />

10. Engage front end of mainshaft in pocket of main drive<br />

gear and press firmly in place.<br />

NOTE: Do not hammer on end of mainshaft.<br />

11. Place one bolt to hold adaptor to transmission case while<br />

performing balance of assembly.<br />

REASSEMBLY COMPLETE UNIT<br />

(Single Lever Type)<br />

1. Thoroughly clean both transmission and overdrive cases.<br />

2. Install transmission mainshaft bearing and oil baffle (lip<br />

to inside) on mainshaft and in overdrive adaptor.<br />

3. Install bearing lock ring in adaptor.<br />

4. Install new overdrive adaptor to transmission case gasket.<br />

5. Install transmission mainshaft part way in transmission<br />

case and Install low and reverse gear with shifter fork<br />

groove toward front of shaft.<br />

CAUTION: It is important that the f our oil holes be<br />

lined up with the grooves in main-shaft.<br />

NOTE: The transmission mainshaft and transmission<br />

gears are a select fit. If it is ever necessary to replace a<br />

transmission mainshaft or a complete overdrive assembly,<br />

the fit between the involute splines of the mainshaft<br />

and splines in the gears should be free from any binding.<br />

In the event binding exists, it may be necessary to stone<br />

the splines of the mainshaft to obtain proper clearance.<br />

6. Slide the intermediate gear on mainshaft with the tapered<br />

side of the hub toward the front of the mainshaft.<br />

7. Install synchronizer shift sleeve assembly and two bronze<br />

synchronizer rings on the mainshaft with the tapered end<br />

of the shift sleeve toward the front of the mainshaft.<br />

12. Install second and high shift rail lock ball and spring in<br />

transmission case.<br />

NOTE: Light spring for high and second shift rail. Heavy<br />

spring for low and reverse shift rail.<br />

13. Place second and high shift fork in position in synchronizer<br />

shift sleeve groove and Install shift rail and set screw.<br />

14. Install shift rail stop screw.<br />

15. Install shift rail interlock.<br />

16. Place low and reverse shifter in position behind shift shaft<br />

inner lever.<br />

17. Place low and reverse shift fork in position, Install shift<br />

rail and shift fork and shifter set screw.<br />

Install parts per "Installation of Parts To Rear of Adaptor."<br />

Pages 13 and 14.<br />

Reassemble and Install housing per "Reassembly of<br />

Housing" and" Installation of Housing." Pages 13 and 15.<br />
