ENGINE 3 - 19<br />

CAUTION: Be sure the engine lift bracket is safely<br />

attached to the engine and that chain fall hook is properly<br />

positioned with chain tight, Figure 20, as engine<br />

will tip when the No. 3 crossmember is removed.<br />

11. Carefully remove engine out of chassis, Figure 20.<br />

Installation:<br />

1. Loosen bolts holding front motor insulators to crossmember.<br />

NOTE: This will allow proper front motor support<br />

alignment when entering motor to car.<br />

2. Enter engine to car using care to enter at a proper angle.<br />

3. Align engine with front motor support bolts, Install nuts<br />

and washers, but do not tighten at this time.<br />

4. On Hydra-Matic equipped cars, raise rear of engine<br />

sufficiently to Install the No. 3 crossmember, Install<br />

bolts but do not tighten.<br />

5. On cars equipped with standard transmissions, align rear<br />

motor support insulator with hole s in crossmember and<br />

Install spacers, flat washers, lock-washers, and nuts;<br />

tighten securely. On cars equipped with Hydra-Matic,<br />

Install the engine rear support bolts, attaching the rear<br />

insulators to the No. 3 crossmember (two each side).<br />

Tighten these bolts securely and then tighten the crossmember<br />

bolts evenly and securely.<br />

6. On cars equipped with standard transmissions, Install<br />

clutch cross shaft and bracket assembly.<br />

NOTE: Use a new rubber bushing at clutch cross shaft.<br />

7. Install clutch adjusting rod and make necessary adjustment.<br />

8. Install clutch pull back spring.<br />

9. Install the shift lever rods to transmission. On cars<br />

equipped with Hydra-Matic, Install the outer throttle<br />

rod lever, throttle rod and selector.<br />

10. Install speedometer driven gear and speedometer cable.<br />

11. Install universal joint to transmission companion<br />

flange. Lock plates securely .<br />

12. Install propeller shaft center support bracket and attaching<br />

screws.<br />

13. Install exhaust pipe flange at manifold before tightening<br />

clamp at transmission.<br />

14. Tighten front motor support bolts to 40 lbs. torque.<br />

15. Install oil pressure indicator contact (bakelite) and wire.<br />

Use care in tightening to prevent breakage.<br />

16. Install exhaust pipe clamp at rear motor support.<br />

17. Install flexible gas line.<br />

18. Refill transmission as outlined in transmission section<br />

of Hydra-Matic <strong>Manual</strong>.<br />

19. Lower car.<br />

20. Remove motor lifting bracket.<br />

21. Install oil gauge wire at check valve, coil wire, temperature<br />

gauge wire, generator wires, starter, starter c able<br />

and windshield wiper hose.<br />

22. On first series cars, Install remote control cable to<br />

control tube and attach bracket to control lever support<br />

bracket.<br />

NOTE: Shifter lever at steering wheel and transmission<br />

must be in neutral to insure proper shift.<br />

23. Install Weather Control hose at water pump tube or at<br />

water pump.<br />

24. Install air cleaner.<br />

25. Install radiator and hose.<br />

26. Attach headlight harness to junction post.<br />

27. Install front fender tie panel assembly in reverse order<br />

of removal.<br />

28. Attach hood lock release cable wire on cars so equipped.<br />

29. Install accelerator rod at throttle bell crank.<br />

30. Install hood, reverse procedure of removal.<br />

31. Refill crankcase to recommended level. See<br />

"LUBRICATION", Section 1.<br />

PISTONS. PINS. AND RINGS<br />

ROD AND PISTON REMOVAL: (6 & 8 CYLINDER)<br />

NOTE: Before removing rods and pistons, remove the<br />

ridge from the top of cylinder walls with an accredited<br />

ridge reamer.
