2. Remove hub and drum by means of hub puller J-736 as<br />

shown in Figure 8. (Do not strike the end of the axle shaft<br />

to loosen the hub because of possible damage to the<br />

bearing and the center drive shaft thrust spacer).<br />

6. Remove bearing from axle shaft, using bearing remover<br />

J-358 - H - 1 Holder and J-2641 Adapter, Figure 10.<br />

3. Remove nuts and lockwashers which hold the rear wheel<br />

bearing adjusting cap and oil seal assembly to the backing<br />

plate and axle housing.<br />

4. Remove adjusting cap and oil seal assembly and shims.<br />

NOTE: It is important if shims are to be removed from<br />

both sides of the axle, that each set should be kept separate,<br />

and reassembled in their original location, in order<br />

that proper bearing adjustment is maintained. If an axle<br />

shaft, bearing, carrier or housing is to be replaced by<br />

another part, the axle shaft and play should be checked<br />

and corrected.<br />

5. Remove axle shaft and wheel bearing, using axle shaft<br />

puller J-352. See Figure 9.<br />

7. Remove axle shaft inner oil seal, using tool J-943. See<br />

Figure 11.<br />

NOTE : It is advisable to replace old oil seals with new<br />

seals in order to prevent leakage.
