OVERDRIVE 9 - 13<br />

Installation OF ADAPTOR<br />

PLATE, SOLENOID PAWL, SUN<br />

GEAR CONTROL PLATE AND<br />

BLOCKER, SOLENOID, SUN GEAR<br />

SHIFT RAIL AND FORK<br />

(Single Lever Type)<br />

1. Position the adaptor p late and fasten the adaptor to the<br />

transmission case and Install the solenoid pawl, sun gear<br />

control plate and blocker assembly, Figure 21.<br />

DISASSEMBLY - (Double Lever Type)<br />

1. Compress the lockup rail spring, pressing it away from<br />

the "C " washer (54) Figure 1 and remove the "C " washer.<br />

2. Pull the shift rail shaft out of the shift fork and remove the<br />

spring and plain washer.<br />

NOTE: The retractor spring should have a free length of<br />

2-3/4" and 1-21/32" under load of 12 lbs. The lockup rail<br />

spring has a free length of 1-3/8" and 15/16" under load<br />

of 8 lbs.<br />

NOTE: Insert the pawl with the notched side up, be<br />

sure that the blocker ring and pawl are properly positioned<br />

before Installing the snap ring, Figure 22. With<br />

pawl fully engaged in slot in stationary gear and one<br />

end of the interlock plunger contacting the shift rail<br />

REASSEMBLY OF OVERDRIVE<br />

HOUSING<br />

1. Install overdrive mainshaft rear bearing rear lock ring<br />

(44) Figure 2, rear bearing (45), and rear bearing front<br />

lock ring (44).<br />

2. Install new oil seal (46) in overdrive case (37).<br />

3. Before Installing shift shaft (22) in the overdrive housing,<br />

coat the shift shaft oil seal counter-bore with white lead<br />

and tap in a new oil seal (23). Dip the threaded end of the<br />

shift shaft in liquid soap, and using care, push the shaft<br />

through the new seal, turn the shaft so that the shifter lug<br />

will be in an upright position.<br />
