WHEEL CYLINDERS<br />

(FRONT)<br />

REMOVAL:<br />

1. Remove wheel and hub and drum.<br />

2. Disconnect brake hose at frame bracket.<br />

3. Using tool KMO-526, remove brake shoe retracting<br />

springs (39) Figure 1%y placing large end of tool over the<br />

anchor pin with the disengaging lug in the opening of the<br />

spring hook, rotate the tool 90 degrees and pull outward,<br />

NOTE: Use same procedure as shown for "Front Cylinder<br />

Removal & Installation" except item 2.<br />

4. Remove the two wheel cylinder attaching screws.<br />

5. Remove the connecting links between cylinder pistons<br />

and brake shoes. Wheel cylinder and hose maybe withdrawn<br />

as a unit.<br />

To Install, Reverse Procedure of Removal.<br />

NOTE: When installing the brake shoe retracting<br />

springs, use KMO-526 Replacer. Position small end of<br />

tool over anchor pin, place spring hook over shaft of tool<br />

and pry spring into position, Figure 6.<br />

1. Remove cylinder end guards (2), Figure 4.<br />

2. Remove pistons (3).<br />

3. Remove piston cups (4).<br />

4. Remove piston cup springs (5).<br />

Check condition of rubber parts, and the cylinder bore for<br />

scratches or pits. Cylinder walls that are scratched or pitted<br />

should be honed or replaced.<br />

ASSEMBLY:<br />

1. Wash wheel cylinder and parts in c1ean alcohol.<br />

2. Dip wheel cylinder and all parts in "<strong>Hudson</strong> Hydraulic<br />

Brake Fluid" for lubrication. Use new rubber cups.<br />

3. Assemble as shown in Figure 4.<br />

NOTE: The wheel cylinder screws should be tightened<br />

with torque wrench J-1300 at 12 foot pounds.
