FRONT SUSPENSION 12 - 5<br />

LOWER SUPPORT ARM PIVOT<br />

AND BUSHING<br />

REMOVAL:<br />

1. Jack front wheels clear of the floor.<br />

2. Place stand jack under inner side of lower support arm.<br />

3. Remove front and rear bushings of the lower support arm<br />

pivot (3), Figure 1.<br />

4. Remove the four bolts (4) that hold lower pivot to front<br />

crossmember.<br />

5. Remove pivot (3) from lower support arm.<br />

INSTALLATION:<br />

1. Install the lower support arm pivot (3), Figure 1.<br />

NOTE: The lower support arms are identical on the right<br />

and left sides with the exception of the diameter of the<br />

threaded bosses through which the lower support bolt<br />

passes. The bosses that face the front of the car are<br />

threaded .010" larger than the ones at the rear. A 1/4 inch<br />

hole is punched in the top plate of the left arm assembly<br />

to distinguish it from the right arm which has no hole.<br />

2. Install front coil spring.<br />

3. Install lower support arm pivot to frame bolts.<br />

NOTE: Use tool J-1052 to maintain the exact distance of<br />

11-1/2" between the inner faces of support arm and the<br />

exact distance of 1-1/2" between the inner face of support<br />

arm and the center line of the nuts holding the pivot to the<br />

cross member. These distances must be maintained.<br />

A .010" oversize lower support arm to support bolt bushing is<br />

available for wear of the steering spindle support.<br />

4. Install shock absorber, mounting plate, rubber bushings,<br />

retainers and retaining nuts. Lower car to floor.<br />

5. Adjust camber, caster, and tow-in.<br />

REMOVAL:<br />

STEERING SPINDLE SUPPORT<br />

LOWER PIVOT PIN AND BUSHING<br />

1. Place a jack under the lower support arm (1), Figure 1,<br />

and raise the car.<br />

2. Remove cotter key, nut, and washer from the lower<br />

support arm to spindle support pivot pin, (5).<br />

3. Remove the lower pivot pin (5) and bushing.<br />

INSTALLATION:<br />

1. Install bushing in spindle support.<br />

2. Hold the steering spindle support (22), Figure 3, squarely<br />

between the yoke of lower support arm (1), Figure 1.<br />

3. Install the lower pivot pin (5) and index the pin so that the<br />

spindle support (22) is centralized between the inner faces<br />

of the lower support arm (1), Figure 1.<br />

4. Install the washer, nut, and cotter pin.<br />

5. Check caster, camber, and toe-in.<br />

REMOVAL.<br />
