3. Disconnect accelerator pedal at accelerator rod.<br />

13. Remove shifter shaft outer lever nut and washer, this<br />

will disconnect the linkage connecting the Handy Shift<br />

to the transmission.<br />

14. Remove 2 screws and remove flywheel guard from<br />

bottom of clutch housing.<br />

15. Re m e the two engine rear mounting bolts and nuts at<br />

third crossmember.<br />

16. Jack up rear end of engine about 1/2" off the frame.<br />

CAUTION: Place a block of wood under head of jack to<br />

prevent damage to the oil pan.<br />

17. Disconnect speedometer cable at transmission and<br />

Install wood plug.<br />

18. Remove two top screws holding clutch h o u s in g to<br />

engine end plate and Install tw o headless screws 1-2969<br />

to support the transmission until the balance of the<br />

screws are removed.<br />

19. Remove breather pipe bracket from clutch housing, and<br />

bolt attaching breather pipe and rear tappet cover.<br />

4. Remove foot brake pedal rod from brake lever using tool<br />

J-2795, Figure 5.<br />

5. Pull the steering column hole rubber cover up out of<br />

the way.<br />

6. Remove the floor mat.<br />

7. Remove <strong>Hudson</strong> Weather Control unit held by 4<br />

screws, (2 each side). Remove Bowden wire at weather<br />

control valve.<br />

8. Remove the floor opening cover, (held by 5 screws at<br />

cowl kick pad, 12 screws along floor and 1 bolt and nut<br />

at steering gear floor opening cover).<br />

9. Disconnect the propeller shaft at transmission companion<br />

flange. Loosen bolt screws attaching propeller shaft<br />

center bearing support and move propeller shaft rearward<br />

to clear transmission companion flange.<br />

NOTE: Use a wire or rubber band to prevent the trunnions<br />

from slipping off the "U" joint spider.<br />

10. Unhook the clutch pedal lever return spring.<br />

11. Remove the two clutch cross shaft bracket bolts, remove<br />

clutch cross shaft bracket.<br />

12. Remove the clutch control link clevis pin and unhook<br />

clevis.<br />

20. Pull transmission and clutch housing back towards the<br />

rear and up through the floor opening. Hoist J-1502 will<br />

be helpful in handling the assembly.<br />

NOTE: See "Overdrive Section" on cars equipped with<br />

Overdrive .<br />

21. Loosen all clutch-cover-to-flywheel screws slightly to<br />

release the tension of clutch engaging springs. Remove<br />

the screws and lift off the clutch assembly and driven<br />

disc.<br />

CLUTCH REMOVAL FROM CAR<br />

(Double Lever Type)<br />

NOTE: On Models 6B, 7B and 8B with the standard<br />

transmission it is not necessary to remove the transmission<br />

floor opening cover to remove the transmission and<br />

clutch housing. For Models 4B and 5B, perform operations<br />

1 through 8 under "Clutch Removal From Car,<br />

Single Lever Type Transmission" and proceed as follows:<br />

1. Remove drain plug and drain lubricant.
