Rerouting calls when IP transmission quality is poor<br />

When transmission quality over the IP network is unacceptable, use AAR or ARS<br />

with Configuration Manager to reroute calls over private and public telephone<br />

networks. This is called PSTN Fallback.<br />

Be<strong>for</strong>e you start<br />

Be<strong>for</strong>e you per<strong>for</strong>m this procedure, <strong>com</strong>plete the following tasks:<br />

• Plan call routing (page 419)<br />

• Creating an IP trunk group (page 422)<br />

• Starting IP Trunk service (page 432)<br />

• Placing a test telephone call (page 448)<br />

• Placing a test telephone call (page 448)<br />

Instructions<br />

As an example, let’s administer PSTN Fallback <strong>for</strong> trunk group 80, which is already<br />

set up.<br />

To start PSTN Fallback, begin at the Windows NT desktop:<br />

1 Double-click the Configuration Manager icon.<br />

IP Trunk Configuration Manager appears.<br />

2 Click the QoS tab.<br />

The Quality of Service property page appears.<br />

3 Select Line Pool (trunk group) 80.<br />

4 Click Properties.<br />

The Line Pool Properties dialog box appears.<br />

5 Click Monitor and PSTN Fallback.<br />

IP trunk will now monitor this trunk group and block access if either of the<br />

service quality criteria are exceeded.<br />

6 Click OK to close the Line Pool Properties dialog box.<br />

7 If you want to change the default criteria used to measure service quality, change<br />

the settings in the following fields on the QoS tab:<br />

~ Sampling Interval (sec)<br />

~ Samples to Average (number)<br />

~ Packet Loss Threshold (%): Low<br />

~ Packet Loss Threshold (%): High<br />

~ Round Trip Delay Threshold (msec.): Low<br />

~ Round Trip Delay Threshold (msec.): High<br />

8 Click OK to save your changes and close Configuration Manager.<br />
