The Seismological Stations, CWB, Taiwan.heart of the remote stations is the microprocessor, which is based on a microcorderthat detects the earthquakes, then sends the origin time and other information tothe digital printer and records the data on a cassette tape. The cassettes are latersent to the central station for playback onto computer tapes for archival and futureuse. Our interest is mainly in the larger earthquakes (M 2 4.0), and therefore thissystem is designed to record and analyze earthquakes in the magnitude range 4.0to 9.0.For data processing, communications equipment has been established to permitthe remote stations to link automatically with the central computer - a VAX 11/750.The stations transmit earthquake information that permits online analysis of locationand magnitude. Offline generation of archival data tapes will be performed inthe future using this computer.
