428 Kexin Qu8. Plans for the Near Future(1) After a thorough investigation of early seismograms, bulletins, and reportsof early stations, and finding specifications of the instruments then in use, weplan to sort out the early seismograms of the Sheshan (Zi-ka-wai), Dalian, Beijing(Peking), Nanjing (Nanking), Lanzhou, and Kunming stations. We intend torenovate and annotate the early seismograms according to present requirements andstandards. Then gradually microfilm those early seismograms that contain seismicevents recorded at the above-mentioned stations.(2) To improve the storage conditions and the efficiency in data management.(3) To gain the consideration and sympathy and support from various sources forour work. The 3,226 seismograms kept at Beijing Observatory still have to be identifiedand labelled with place of recording and type of instruments. The 8,798 historicalseismograms from Lanzhou and Sheshan stations and the 1,147 seismograms ofmajor earthquakes participating in the project are ready for microfilming.Although we have made some progress in the sorting of seismograms, the work ofmicrofilming historical seismograms of China proceeds slowly due to the limitationof equipment and lack of funds. We support the resolutions and suggestions ofIASPEI/UNESCO, and are eager to actively participate in promoting this project.REFERENCESAcademia Sinica (1956).
