In order to establish andma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>teroperability among heterogeneous content management systems,federation and network<strong>in</strong>g of different content organisation systems are necessary<strong>in</strong> order to facilitate topic-based content retrieval and exchange of content <strong>in</strong> B2B<strong>in</strong>teractions.Global Content Management may have very different manifestations. In thearea of Cultural Content Management, <strong>for</strong> <strong>in</strong>stance, cultural heritage technologieshave developed <strong>in</strong> order to build up digital libraries, digital archives anddigital museums.Other applications of Global Content Management systems are:– ePublish<strong>in</strong>g (s<strong>in</strong>gle source methodologies)– E-Learn<strong>in</strong>g (manag<strong>in</strong>g teach<strong>in</strong>g content)– Cyber Science (Collaborative Content Creation)– Digital Cities and other Virtual Communities projects.On the pragmatic level of ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g content management systems we observesimilar problems as on the level of knowledge management, that a corporateculture of knowledge shar<strong>in</strong>g has to be developed and nurtured, that special communicativeand <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mational skills are needed to share knowledge across culturesand that the dynamic changes <strong>in</strong> content require a management philosophy that isfully cognizant of the daily implications of these constant changes.<strong>Translation</strong> resources such as translation memories and other aligned corpora,multil<strong>in</strong>gual term<strong>in</strong>ological resources, reference resources, etc. are typicalexamples of content that needs to be managed <strong>in</strong> such global action spaces.4. Pragmatic issues <strong>in</strong> global content management: A case study on theCentre <strong>for</strong> <strong>Translation</strong> Studies at the University of ViennaStudy programs offered at the Centre <strong>for</strong> <strong>Translation</strong> Studies <strong>in</strong>clude a Bachelor<strong>in</strong> Transcultural Communication and two Master programmes <strong>in</strong> <strong>Translation</strong>(specialis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to technical (or LSP) translation and literary translation) and Interpret<strong>in</strong>g(specialis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to conference <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g and dialogue <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g (<strong>in</strong>cl.community <strong>in</strong>terpret<strong>in</strong>g) and cover 14 languages.50% of all courses held are implement<strong>in</strong>g a blended learn<strong>in</strong>g strategy that wehave developed and that covers all phases of content creation and content utilisation.This strategy explicitly addresses the global aspect of learn<strong>in</strong>g content(cross-cultural learn<strong>in</strong>g), the technological dimension of us<strong>in</strong>g language technologiesand knowledge eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g methods <strong>for</strong> creat<strong>in</strong>g and us<strong>in</strong>g digital learn<strong>in</strong>gobjects, and the social dimension of the <strong>in</strong>teraction between teachers and learners
