In Bacninh, low concentrations of ΣHCH were also detected in 29 of 40 soilsamples (Table 8). The ΣHCH concentrations in agricultural areas ranged from N.Dto 9.54 ng g -1 (mean 7.38 ± 2.17 ng g -1 ), while those from towns and traditionalvillages ranged from N.D to 5.86 ng g -1 (mean 1.58 ± 2.18 ng g -1 ). γ-HCHconcentrations in the analysed soil were also much lower than MAC (γ-HCH < 100ng g -1 ). Similar to the explanations for Hanoi, the contamination of HCH originatedin the usage as pesticides for crop protection and as vector control for public healthpurposes. Obtained results show that the level of HCH contamination in Bacninh issimilar with those from Hanoi. At present, official information on HCHconsumption in Hanoi and Bacninh is not available. Thus, it is not possible to assessin detail the relation between the really used HCH quantity and the contaminationstatus. Results of table 7 and table 8 shows that HCH mean concentrations inagricultural areas from Bacninh are higher than those in other areas in Hanoi but thedifference is not remarkable.Table 8.
