CASE STUDY – METHODS AND FILM PACKAGING EQUIPMENTSAPPLIED AT SC RODAX IMPEX TO ENSURE THE TRACEABILITY OFTHE PRODUCTS IN THE FOOD CHAIN1 SC RODAX IMPEX SRLMOLDOVAN L., PANTEA G., GHEORGHIU D. 1ABSTRACTIn the food chain, traceability means the ability to trace and follow a food, feed, food producinganimal or substance through all stages of production and distribution.The basic characteristics of traceability systems, i.e. identification, in<strong>format</strong>ion and the links between,are common in all systems independent of the type of product, production and control system that areserved.Stages of production and distribution means any stage including import and including the primaryproduction of food, up to its sale or supply to the final consumer and, where relevant to food safety,the production, manufacture and distribution of feed.The insurance of the quality of the foods has in view the whole food chain, from the designing of theproduct to the purchasing of the raw materials to the whole production environment, as well as beingfocused on the production. This solicits a systematic approach and a quality system which isintroduced, maintained and administrated, in conformity with the quality management; for reachingmaximum performance in ensuring the quality of the foods the first step is represented by themanagement of the raw materials. The quality systems used by the enterprises in the food industrysector are based on the requirements of the ISO 9000 family standards, as well as other standardsspecific to the food sector elaborated at international, national or regional level.To ensure a traceability system in an organization must be realized the process traceability, theproduct traceability, the documents traceability.Both products and processes may form key components (known technically as core entities) in atraceability system with in<strong>format</strong>ion stored in relation to each.The traceability of products is based on the ability to identify them uniquely at any point in thesupply chain.In the food packaging domain it is very important the application of the traceability system, this beingrepresentative for the functions of the packaging.The case study is describing the modified atmosphere packaging method and the afferent equipmentrealized by RODAX.Keywords: food safety, packaging method, packaging equipment, traceability1. INTRODUCTIONFood traceability systems are record keeping procedures, or tracing systems, thatrecord the path of a food product or an ingredient in a food product from its initialsupplier through all processing stages until it reaches the end consumer.A traceability system allows the food industry to: promptly locate and remove unsafe products in case of a recall; protect brand reputation — keeping precise records allows companies toquickly identify and recall only unsafe products, reducing the scope of arecall, demonstrating good corporate citizenship and a high level of297
