Its aim is to increase theorganizational competitiveness and knowledge management, in<strong>format</strong>ion, competencies, expertiseand partnerships in the agri-food Research and Development, assembling representativeorganizations in the field. It will offer the needed interface for the integration of the agri-food R&Dinto the large European R&D partnerships, projects and programs, thus contributing to an increasedcompetitiveness of the research activity.INTRODUCTIONKnowledge Management is dealt with today, in the majority of the existingsystems, as being based on a structured organization of the Best Practices,knowledge, in<strong>format</strong>ion, competencies, expertise and partnerships concerningvarious fields, generically reunited as such under the concept of intangible values.These static systems have the drawback of creating the intangible values throughprocesses and possibly, through procedures centered on the individual and not onthe community and hence of creating a great amount of in<strong>format</strong>ion stored at theindividual’s level, very probably redundant, with uncertain utility, relativeaccessibility and difficult, time consuming extraction.Furthermore, the lack of a common collaborative platform at the level of thecommunities involved in joint programmes for the creation of knowledgerepresents a major hurdle in accomplishing a management of the knowledge,aligned to the strategies of the organization.The main assumption of this collaborative platform was the importance of knowingthe current mechanisms, conditions and aspects of the production of knowledge,notwithstanding those related to the transfer and the utilization of the newknowledge and hence, extending the study of the connection between research andinnovation as it is intermediated by the cooperation in R&D activity.A system for the management of in<strong>format</strong>ion and knowledge is today a necessitydue to the following factors:• the economic environment is more and more competitive and the innovationrate is increasing322
