• the knowledge and the in<strong>format</strong>ion needed to carry out the essential activitiesof an organization are held by a small number of persons; it is required thatthese knowledge and in<strong>format</strong>ion were disseminated within the organization;• the time allocated to the accumulation of experience and knowledge hasdiminished under the pressure of the fast adaptation to the requirements of themore and more dynamic environment;• retirements and the increased mobility of the employees may lead to animportant loss of knowledge for the organization.MATERIALS AND METHODSThe scope of the Agri-Food Knowledge Management Platform (Agri-Food KMP)is oriented on the following directions:1. development of research from the perspective of institutes and universities;2. development of the interactions and the cooperation between researchinstitutes, universities and commercial organizations;3. improving the cooperation in R&D;4. improving the transfer of knowledge.Agri-Food KMP will involve the promotion of the knowledge society, whichassumes the activation of the technological vectors (e.g. Internet, artificialintelligence, etc.) and of the functional vectors (management of in<strong>format</strong>ion,knowledge and competencies, innovations, etc.)The technological development rapidly affects the way in<strong>format</strong>ion is generallydistributed, accessed, controlled and published, and in particular, the scientificin<strong>format</strong>ion. The Internet and the intranets have more and more important role inthe production and distribution of scientific and educational material.As research and the technical and scientific knowledge is a strong vector of theeconomic progress and growth, the speed of accessing in<strong>format</strong>ion and specializedstudies is a decisive factor of the quality and of the competitiveness of the researchdevelopment-innovationactivities.The Agri-Food KMP aligned to the European research objectives areas, onceaccomplished and used, can be extended to the research organizations or thoseworking with mostly intellectual personnel (education institutions, etc.). Throughthe implementation of the collaborative platform, materialized in a system ofmanagement of the knowledge and competencies in the Agri-food R&D, thevaluation of the forecasted results is observed through:1. building a structure of in<strong>format</strong>ion and knowledge in electronic <strong>format</strong>, onclasses of various pertinent and relevant areas, needed for the various activitiesin the organization;2. establishing the domains of interest, function of which the classification andthe searching of the documentation in the virtual library are done;323
