long. Calyx i-f in. long, globose, hairy between the ribs,<br />
5-toothed. Corolla yellow, or upper lip white and lower yellow,<br />
tube i-l in. long, hairy outside, by 4 or twice as long as the<br />
calyx. Lower lip 1-1^ in. broad, 3-lobed, lateral lobes rounded,<br />
twice as large as the oblong mid-lobe ; upper lip often S-shaped<br />
or spirally curved, produced into a slender, curved, deeply<br />
bifid beak about i-i in. long. Stamens inserted at the top of<br />
the tube. Filaments hairless. Ovary lance-shaped. Stigma<br />
protruding. Capsule i-li in. long, egg-lance-shaped, finely<br />
long-pointed. Seeds deeply netted.<br />
Nearly related to Pedicidaris elephantoides, but can be<br />
distinguished by the deeply bifid beak. In P. elephantoides<br />
it is entire.<br />
Flowers. June, July.<br />
Locality. Aporwat above Gulmarg, open, grassy, damp<br />
hill-side, about 10,000 ft., common<br />

damp ground, above 10,000 ft. ;<br />
Tosh Maidan, common in<br />
certain places, 11,000-12,000 ft.; Damam Sar, 13,100 ft., not<br />
very common.<br />
Distribution. W. Himalaya, from Kashmir to Garhwal,<br />
9,000-17,000 ft., Kurram Valley, Afghanistan.<br />

Stem erect, hairy, stout. Leaves stalked, oblong, pinnatifid,<br />
lower stem-leaves soon withering ; segments 6-12 pairs,<br />
oblong, blunt at tip, toothed. Flowers yellow, or the lower<br />
lip yellow and the upper purple, axillary, stalked, stalk i-J in.<br />
long racemes dense or interrupted below. Calyx f -f in. long,<br />

globose, densely netted between the ribs, 5-toothed, segments<br />
broadly lance-shaped, twice toothed, the uppermost half the<br />
length of the others. Corolla-tube f-1 in. long; lower lip<br />
3-lobed, li in. broad, lateral lobes rounded, twice as large as<br />
the oblong mid-lobe ; upper lip rolled inwards, basal part g in.<br />
long, erect, anther-bearing part 1 by ^ in. sickle-shaped, prolonged<br />
into an entire beak f in. long. Stamens inserted at the<br />
top of the tube. Filaments hairless. Ovary lance-shaped.<br />
Capsule egg-lance-shaped, long-pointed.<br />
Flowers. August.<br />
Locality. Hills above Gulmarg, damp ground in woods and<br />
amongst scrub, above 10,000 ft., common.<br />
Distribution. Apparently endemic in Kashmir.
