No bulb. Leaves 1-2, 3-5 by i in., shorter than the tall,<br />
stout, flowering stem, hollow, blunt ;<br />
sheath very long.<br />
Flowering stem 2-3 ft. by J-J in. Heads f-1 in. diameter,<br />
globose, dense-flowered ; spathes persistent. Flower-stalks<br />
about as long as the bell-shaped, pale yellow flowers. Perianth<br />
segments J-l in. long; segments oblong-lance-shaped, longpointed.<br />
Filaments united at J distance from the base, very<br />
short, inner ones with a widened 2-toothed base, outer ones<br />
simple, not J the length of the perianth. Capsule globose ;<br />
style very short.<br />
Locality. Barzii, 12,000 ft.<br />
Distribution. Kashmir, Turkestan.<br />

Bulbs clustered. Stem-base clothed with leaf-sheaths<br />
Leaves many, linear, flat, blunt, 6 by J in., about as long as<br />
the sharp-angled flowering stem, which is 4-12 in. long and<br />
robust. Heads 2-3 in. diameter, many-flowered. Flower stalks<br />
as long as or longer than the white star-shaped flowers. Perianth<br />
segments \ in. long, narrow, at length bent back. Stamens<br />
shorter than the segments, included, bases widened, united.<br />
Locality. Damam Sar ;<br />

Distribution. Temperate Himalaya, from Kashmir to<br />
Kumaon.<br />

Baker.<br />
Bulb small, egg-shaped, outer scales membranous, grey.<br />
Leaves 2-5, linear-lance-shaped, flat, ciliolate, 6-9 by ^-1 in.,<br />
narrowed from above the base, longer than the slender, round<br />
flowering stem which is 3-6 in. high. Head 30-50-flowered<br />
;<br />
spathes 2. Flower-stalks J-i in. long, tip thickened, longer<br />
than the bell-shaped white perianth. Perianth-lobes rVtr in.<br />
long, lance-shaped, sharp-pointed, midrib brown, inner awlshaped,<br />
outer linear with awl-shaped tips. Filaments as long<br />
as the segments. Ovary globose-triangular. Style very short.<br />
Besembles A. atropurpureum, but the leaves are broader,<br />
the head not hemispheric, and the flower-stalks shorter.<br />
Locality. Kishtwar and Banehal, 10,000-14,000 ft.<br />
Distribution. Endemic.
