included in the corolla-tube, very short. Ovary flattened,<br />
4-lobed, 4-celled. Style simple, fixed between the lobes of the<br />
ovary. Nutlets 4, round, r in. diameter, densely covered<br />
with hooked bristles on the margin, outer surfaces concave<br />
with few hooked bristles.<br />

An erect, hairy plant, 1-3 ft. high. Basal leaves stalked,<br />
oblong-elliptic, about 2 in. long, f in. broad, stem-leaves many,<br />
almost stalkless, egg-shaped or elliptic, sharp-pointed, densely<br />
hairy beneath, 3-4 in. long, lf-2 in. broad. Eacemes denseflowered,<br />
lower fruiting flower-stalks as long as the calyx.<br />
Sepals lance-shaped, sharp-pointed, i in. long, hairy. Corolla<br />
blue, funnel-shaped, | in. long, limb about i in. broad, cleft to<br />
the base, scarcely shorter than the tube, furnished at the<br />
throat with trapeziform scales. Style slightly longer than the<br />
calyx. Nutlets egg-shaped, scarcely ^ in. long, concave on the<br />
outer face, smooth, with hooked bristles on the margin, scar<br />
triangular.<br />
