Bulbs small, clustered, narrowly egg-shaped, outer scales<br />
fibrous, produced into a long neck. Leaves 3-4, narrowly<br />
slender, linear, blunt, 12 by tV in. Flowering stem slender,<br />
compressed above. Flower-head 1 in. diameter, globose or<br />
hemispheric, dense-flowered ; spathes small, triangular.<br />
Flower-stalks iVi in. long, shorter than the flowers. Flowers<br />
bell-shaped, rosy or pale yellow ; segments oblong, blunt.<br />
Filaments filiform, inserted on the bases of the sepals, simple,<br />
free, much protruding. Ovary globose-triangular.<br />
Locality. At elevations of 9,000 ft.<br />
Distribution. W. Himalaya, from Kashmir to Kumaon,<br />
10,000-12,000 ft. Allium Thomson!, Baker.<br />
Bulbs tufted, narrowly egg-shaped, outer scales hard,<br />
chestnut-brown, entire. Leaves 4-5, rather stout, linear,<br />
flat, fleshy, blunt, 6-9 by -J in., shorter or longer than the<br />
flowering stem, sheathing the lower third of the stout, round<br />
flowering stem, which is 1-2 ft. long. Flower-head 1-li in.<br />
diameter, globose. Spathes short, triangular. Flower-stalks<br />
as long as or shorter than the red-purple, bell-shaped flowers.<br />
Perianth-segments J in. long, oblong-lance-shaped, sharppointed.<br />
Filaments simple, filiform, much protruding,<br />
attached to the bases of the perianth-filaments. Ovary<br />
globose, cells 2-ovuled. Style much protruding.<br />
Locality Up to 12,000 ft.<br />
Distribution. Endemic in Kashmir.<br />
Allium victorialis,<br />
Linn.<br />
Bulbs 2-3 in. long, clustered on an oblique rootstock, outer<br />
scales fibrous. Flowering stem round below, angled above.<br />
Leaves from below the middle of the flowering stem, 6-10 by<br />
l-3i in., stalked, elliptic- to oblong-lance-shaped, blunt or<br />
sharp-pointed, rarely long-pointed, bluish green, narrowed into<br />
the stalk, shorter than the flowering stem, which is round<br />
below and angled above. Head 1-li in. diameter, drooping in<br />
bud, then erect, lax-flowered. Spathes 2, shorter or longer<br />
than the flowers. Flower-stalks J-l in. long, much longer<br />
than the star-shaped, greenish white or yellowish flowers.<br />
