1 in. diameter and sharply toothed or 3-fid at the tip.<br />
Corolla deep pink, varying to nearly white, usually much<br />
larger than the calyx, but when the latter is enlarged it<br />
becomes very small, lobes egg-shaped, entire or notched.<br />
Capsule much smaller than the calyx. Seeds very small,<br />
rounded.<br />

Locality. Steep hill-sides south of Sarban Lake ; Tangmarg,<br />

Androsace Chamaeiasme, Host.<br />
(Chamaciasme is derived from the Greek chainai, on the ground<br />
or low, and iasme, the name of a sweft-smelling oil or the plant<br />
itself which was known to the ancients as coming from Persia.)<br />
A very variable plant, stoloniferous. Leaves f in. long,<br />
xVi in. broad, forming rosettes, lance-shaped, quite entire,<br />
narrowed into the stalk, on both sides almost hairless, longciliate<br />
on the margins. Flowering stems 1-5 in. long, 2-8-<br />
flowered, densely hairy. Bracts as long as the flower-stalks<br />
or shorter, lance-shaped or lance-egg-shaped, densely hairy,<br />
sharp-pointed. Calyx bell-shaped, cleft beyond the middle,<br />
lobes hairy, lance-shaped, blunt. Corolla white, tube as long<br />
as the calyx-lobes, lobes notched, limb i-J in. diameter,<br />
throat yellow, finally red. Seeds few, iVi* in. long.<br />
Locality. Burjila Karakoram, 12,000-15,000 ft.<br />
