ERITRICHIUM, Schrad.<br />

(From the Greek erion, wool, and trix, trichos, hair, alluding to the<br />

hairiness of most species.)<br />

hairs E. tibeticum.<br />

part. Flowers i in. diameter, blue. Sepals 5, in fruit<br />

rV-rV in. long, oblong. Nutlets forming a pyramid, iV-rV in.<br />

high, with hooked bristles on fche margin whose bases are<br />

united.<br />

Himalaya, 7,000- 13,000 ft., from Kashmir<br />

A lax, weak, spreading herb. Stems 2-10 in. high, many,<br />

slender. Leaves elliptic, mostly stalked, f by i in. or smaller,<br />

blunt, covered with stiff hairs. Eacemes long, in fruit 6 in.<br />

long. Flower-stalks i in. long. Flowers 5 in. diameter.<br />

Calyx-lobes egg-shaped-oblong, xV in. long. Nutlets iV in.<br />

long, egg-shaped, shining, margins entire, somewhat prominent.<br />

Locality. Ladakh.<br />

Distribution. W. Himalaya, 9,000-10,000 ft.
