A softly pubescent herb. Stems 2-3 ft. high, erect.<br />
Badical leaves long-stalked, heart-egg-shaped, 3-6 by 2-4 in.,<br />
entire, sharp-pointed, stalks often 6 in. long, stem-leaves<br />
alternate, smaller short-stalked, round or elliptic-lance-shaped,<br />
uppermost stalkless. Flowers pale blue, J- in. diameter, in<br />
long, usually forked racemes 2-6 in. long. Calyx deeply lobed.<br />
Corolla-tube very short, mouth furnished with 5 small, blunt<br />
scales, lobes rounded, spreading. Stamens enclosed in the<br />
tube. Ovary conical, 4-lobed, 4-celled. Style simple, inserted<br />
between the lobes. Nutlets 4, small, egg-shaped, margins<br />
beset with tapering hooked bristles nearly i in. long, faces<br />
smooth.<br />

Locality. Aporwart above Gulmarg, amongst scrub on<br />
hill-side, about 11,000 ft., common; Gangabal.<br />
Distribution. Temperate Himalaya, 9,000-12,000 ft., from<br />
Kashmir to Simla.<br />
ADELOCARYUM, Brand.<br />
(Derived from the Greek adclos, uncertain, and caryon, nutlet, so<br />
called because the nutlets of this genus agree partly with those of<br />
the genus Cynoglossum, and partly with those of Paracaryum. It<br />
was, therefore, doubtful to which genus this species of the new genus<br />
Adelocaryutn should be ascribed.)<br />
