Not mealy. Leaves almost erect, thinly leathery, i-1 in.<br />

long, glabrous, bluish-green beneath, round or oblong-round<br />

or elliptic, sharply toothed, narrowed into a broad stalk which<br />

is as long as or longer than the blade. Flowering stem much<br />

longer than the leaves, 2-8 in. high, loosely 3- 10- flowered ;<br />

bracts linear, blunt, base shortly produced ;<br />

flower-stalks<br />

J-| in. long, shorter than the bracts. Calyx hell-shaped,<br />

J-i in. long, split to the middle, lobes triangular. Corolla<br />

rose-coloured or mauvy-purple with orange eye, tube longer<br />

than the calyx, lobes deeply notched. Capsule enclosed in the<br />

calyx.<br />

Locality. Tosh Maidan to Damam Sar, 13,000 ft. ;<br />

Khur<br />

Mt., 13,500-13,800 ft. ;<br />

Aporwat above Gulmarg, mossy, rocky<br />

and damp ground, about 12,000 ft., not abundant Ladakh.<br />

This plant has the habit of a Violet. Rootstock slender,<br />

woody. Quito glabrous. Leaves 1-14 in. long, round or<br />

round-heart-shaped, sharply toothed or crenate, tip rounded,<br />

nerves very slender ;<br />

stalk 2-4 in. long, very slender, base<br />

narrowly sheathing. Flowering stalk ;<br />

flower-stalks 2-5,<br />

slender, as long as or shorter than the leaf-stalks. Calyx<br />

broadly bell-shaped, i in. long, during flowering time about<br />

y in. long, lobes broadly triangular, sharp-pointed. Corollatube<br />

if in. long, slender, longer than the calyx, limb flat, lobes<br />

rather narrow, notched. Capsule globose, enclosed in the<br />

calyx.<br />

Locality. Poosiana, 7,000 ft.<br />

Distribution. Apparently endemic in Kashmir.
