Androsace muscoidea, Duby.<br />
(Muscoidea means moss-like.)<br />
More or less tufted. Stems forked-branched, forming<br />
broad, dense patches 6-10 in. diameter of crowded branches<br />
and stolons 2-6 in. long, naked below or covered almost<br />
throughout their length with little balls of leaves. Leaves<br />
small, forming close-set little balls about i in. diameter,<br />
stalkless, linear or oblong, blunt, curved inwards, greenishwhite,<br />
entire, white-hairy, finally almost hairless. Flowerstalks<br />
slightly longer than the leaves. Calyx 5-parted, very<br />
hairy, lobes lance-shaped, blunt. Corolla-lobes inversely eggshaped,<br />
blunt.<br />

Distribution. Apparently endemic in Kashmir.<br />
Androsace primuloides, Duby. (= A. sarmentosa, var.<br />
primuloides, Hook, f.) Primrose-like Androsace.<br />
(Primuloides meanw resembling a Primrose.)<br />
Stolons 2-4 in. long, lax, spreading, hairy when young,<br />
finally hairless. Leaves radical, forming rosettes, very longwhite-hairy,<br />
stalkless, lance-shaped or linear-lance-shaped, or<br />
linear, entire, blunt, some f -5 in. long, appressed to the ground,<br />
others much larger, ly-3f in. long, erect, often stalked.<br />
Flowering stems 1-4 in. long, axillary, densely hairy. Flowerstalks<br />
varying much in length. Bracts i-i in. long, mostly<br />
narrowly oblong-lance-shaped, blunt, hairy, as long as the<br />
flower-stalks or shorter. Calyx bell-shaped, densely hairy,<br />
cleft to the middle or beyond, lobes lance-shaped, blunt.<br />
Corolla flesh-coloured, tube as long as the calyx-lobes, lobes<br />
round-inversely egg-shaped, limb J-f in. diameter.<br />
Neaily related to A. sarmentosa, but can be distinguished by<br />
its unequal bracts of which some are small, others much larger.<br />
Distribution. Hazara, Kashmir, Kumaon.
