Long- flowered Lousewort.<br />
Hairless or nearly so. Stems 1-8 in. high, many from the<br />
root, leafy, erect or ascending, stout, often branched. Kadical<br />
leaves very many, stalked, linear, pinnately cut, 1-3 by i-i in.,<br />
segments 5-8 pairs, lance-shaped, pinnatifid ;<br />
stem-leaves many,<br />
scattered, short-petioled, stalks f-1* in. long, stout. Flowers<br />
yellow, or white, or yello w tube and purple upper lip, or bright<br />
yellow with two purple marks on the lower lip, axillary in<br />
very short dense racemes. Bracts leaf -like. Calyx about<br />
J in. long, narrowly egg-shaped, 3-toothed, top-segment awlshaped<br />
or absent, lateral ones lance-shaped, usually toothed.<br />
Corolla-tube ly-2j- in. long. Lower lip above i in. broad,<br />
3-fid ; upper lip erect, inflated with a slender, blunt, slightly<br />
notched, bent down beak about i in.} long. Stamens inserted<br />
near the top of the tube. All filaments hairy. Stigma<br />
protruding. Capsule f in. by in., egg-shaped, sharp-pointed.<br />
Seeds xV in. long, egg-shaped, black, streaked, scarcely netted.<br />
Nearly related to P. siphonantka, but differs from it by<br />
having all the filaments hairy, whilst in P. siphonantha only<br />
the front ones are so.<br />
Locality. Ladakh.<br />
Distribution. Alpine Himalaya, from Kashmir to Sikkim,<br />
11,000-18,000 ft., N. Tibet and China, Siberia, N. Mongolia.<br />

Sparsely hairy. Stem 1-3 ft. high, strict, hollow, simple or<br />
with whorled slender branches. Leaves all on the stem, 3-5<br />
in a whorl, the lower ones short-stalked, the uppermost and<br />
the bracts stalkless, blade pinnately cut, segments 10-15 pairs,<br />
lance-shaped, toothed or again pinnatifid. Spikes on the<br />
branches and main stem, 6-16 in. long. Flowers red or<br />
purple, short-stalked ;<br />
lower whorls of flowers distant, the<br />
uppermost crowded, bracts leaf-like. Calyx i in. long, hairy,<br />
short, broad-bell-shaped, deeply 5-toothed, segments lanceshaped,<br />
toothed on the margin. Corolla-tube y in. long.<br />
Lower lip 3-lobed, J-<br />
in. broad, lobes rounded, hairy on the<br />
margins. Upper lip narrow, straight, with the margin of<br />
throat hairy, long-pointed, entire. Stamens inserted opposite<br />
the middle of the ovary. Filaments hairless. Stigma included.<br />
Capsule i by ^ in., egg-lance-shaped. Seeds rV in.<br />
egg-shaped, yellow, netted.<br />
