An annual herb, about 4 in. high, quite hairless. Lowest<br />
leaves 2-4 pairs, forming a rosette, stalkless, elliptic or<br />
elliptic-oblong, blunt, up to 1 in. long and f in. broad, with a<br />
cartilaginous margin. Flowers in a head, rarely solitary, blue ;<br />
outer bracts of the flower-head almost round, leaf-like, the rest<br />
narrower and thinner, always shorter than the calyx. Calyx<br />
egg-shaped-oblong, tube f in. long, lobes egg-shaped or ellipticegg-shaped,<br />
up to % in. long. Corolla about f in. long, tube<br />
oblong, T\ in. long, fringed inside below the lobes, lobes eggshaped,<br />
i-- in. long, with folds between the lobes, rfr in. long.<br />
Anthers linear, jV in. long, filaments about y in. long. No<br />
style ; stigmas linear, xV-5 in. long, bent back. Capsule<br />
inversely egg-shaped, i in. long, ^ in. broad above. Seeds<br />
oblong, smooth, not winged.<br />
Locality. -Pir Panjal, 11,400 ft. ; Zaskar, 8,000-10,000 ft.<br />

Branches from the base, many, weak, little divided, laxly<br />
leafy, one-flowered. Leaves small, slightly fleshy, oblong,<br />
upper ones united at the base. Calyx thinly cylindric, narrowed<br />
towards the base, lobes shortly lance-shaped, sharp-pointed,<br />
tube 3-4 times as long as the lobes. Corolla white or blue,<br />
lobes egg-shaped-triangular, i by -&Q in., sometimes i by J in.,<br />
folds between the lobes slightly shorter than the lobes', entire<br />
or lobed. Capsule i-i or even i in. long, inversely egg-shapedglobose.<br />
Locality. Karakoram, 13,000-16,000 ft.<br />
