(Echioides means resembling Ecliiiim, another genus of the<br />
same order. ^<br />
A softly hairy plant. Sterns 6-15 in. high. Leaves oblong,<br />
li by i in., lower long-stalked, spoon-shaped. Eacemes 1-3 in.<br />
long, dense, many -flowered. Flower-stalks i-^ in. long, linear.<br />
Corolla-tube J-i in. long, lobes I in., i longer than the calyxlobes,<br />
erect, scales in the throat obsolete. Filaments of stamens<br />
linear, not united, anthers protruding from the tube, but not<br />
reaching above the corolla-lobes. Styles i in. long. Nutlets<br />
rfr in. long, white or pale, shining. Can always be distinguished<br />
by the erect corolla-lobes.<br />
Flowers. July, August.<br />
Locality. Lian Marg, rocks along torrent, about 10,000 ft.<br />
Distribution. W'.<br />
Himalaya, 5,000-12,000 ft.<br />

A rough, hairy plant. Leaves all near the base, f by i in.,<br />
elliptic, long-stalked, stalk 1 in. long. Peduncles 2-4 in. long.<br />
Racemes 1-4 in. long, flower-stalks I in. long. Sepals | in.,<br />
narrowly oblong, in fruit - in. long. Corolla-tube funnelshaped,<br />
f-f in. long, 4-5 times as long as the calyx, J- in. wide<br />
in the throat, lobes i in. and longer, almost square, throat<br />
with large scales as long as the lobes. Anthers included in<br />
the tufte, entirely below the scales. Style f in. long. Nutlets<br />
more than i in. long, brown-black.<br />
Flowers. July, August.<br />
Locality. Aporwat above Gulmarg, open stony ground and<br />
big rock above 12,000 ft. common ;<br />
Karakoram.<br />
Distribution. W. alpine Himalaya, 12,000-16,000 ft.<br />
