A hairless, bulbous herb. Bulb small, globose, scales membranous.<br />
Stem 6-24: in. high, erect, unbranched, naked below,<br />
often mottled green and reddish brown. Leaves 3-6 in a<br />
whorl or opposite, linear-lance-shaped, 2-5 by s-i in., the<br />
lowest ones sometimes 1-li in. broad, tips of the upper leaves<br />
often linear and hooked. Flowers nodding, terminal, solitary<br />
or 2-4 in a short raceme. Perianth 1-li in. long, bell-shaped ;<br />
segments 6, distinct, yellow-green, chequered with dull purple,<br />
each with a large gland at the base, tips rounded, not bent<br />
back. Stamens 6, at the base of the perianth-segments, and<br />
much shorter. Anthers linear-oblong, attached at the base.<br />
Ovary oblong, 3-celled. Style thick, straight, divided at the<br />
top into 3 short, pointed lobes. Capsule inversely egg-shaped,<br />
f-f in., bluntly 6-angled. Seeds many, small, flattened,<br />
slightly winged.<br />
Flowers. April to July.<br />
Locality. Tangmarg, forest, 8,000 ft. and upwards ;<br />
Gulmarg, 8,600-8,700 ft. Khelanmarg, 10,000 ft. ; ; Tosh<br />
Maidan on steep, stony hill-side, 9,600 ft. ; Basam Gali, in<br />
Juniper tract, above 10,000 ft. ; Astan Marg ; Zojpal.<br />
Distribution. W. temperate Himalaya, 8,000-13,000 ft.,<br />
from Kashmir to Kurnaon.<br />

Bulb large, globose, of broad, obtuse, gibbous, fleshy,<br />
yellowish scales, strong-smelling. Stern 3-4 ft. high, robust,<br />
naked below. Leaves crowded, 6-10 by 1-2 in., lance-shaped,<br />
lower opposite, blunt, upper longer, sharp-pointed, often 10 in<br />
a whorl. Flowers 5-8 in an umbel, yellow or brick red, not<br />
tessellate. Bracts leafy, whorled, erect, linear, Perianth<br />
2-2i in. long ; segments f-lj in. broad. Filaments flattened<br />
below. Capsule 2 in. long, inversely egg-shaped, almost<br />
6-winged.<br />
