MANIPULATOR WITH ELECTRICALLY AND PNEUATICALLY<br />

ACTUATED AXIS<br />

In the past few years, as in other countries in transition, our market is opening to the world’s market, and competition<br />

is growing in all sectors of manufacturing. Manufacturers have to improve the quality of the products and cut<br />

down the prices, to parry manufacturers from economically more developed countries. They have to switch to semior<br />

full automatization in the manufacturing processes. This can be done by various types of manipulators.<br />

The topic of this paper is a manipulator with pneumatically and electrically actuated axis. As a part of the project,<br />

a manipulator with three different axes was made in the Laboratory of Mechatronics, robotics and automatization at<br />

the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad. The task of the manipulator is assembling Maxi LEGO cubes to a previously<br />

defined figure.<br />

The objective of this project is comparing characteristics of different axis actuators, and the manipulator was realized<br />

to present these differences in practice. The different axis actuators which were compared in the project are:<br />

on/off pneumatic, proportional pneumatic and electro engine (servo motor). Also, some advice for their use are given.<br />

A common process of manipulator projecting and a motion control program algorithm for the main PLC are also<br />

presented.<br />
