Moreover, programmes for the return of migrants – whether temporarily or<br />
permanently – who have acquired skills abroad can make an important contribution<br />
to the development of countries of origin.<br />
Effective practices with regard to return policy:<br />
Strengthen cooperation of the authorities of the country of origin, transit<br />
and destination to manage return effectively with a view to facilitating<br />
return and reintegration.<br />
Conclusion of bilateral agreements to facilitate the voluntary or<br />
mandatory return of unauthorized migrants including measures<br />
needed for humane and orderly return.<br />
Promotion of the participation of migrants in the planning and management<br />
of their return and reintegration.<br />
Adoption of adequate measures to ensure that migrants who have<br />
returned to their homes or places of habitual residence are not subject<br />
to discrimination, prosecution or punishment for having left their former<br />
places of residence.<br />
Adoption of migration policies that provide for the transferability of<br />
pensions and other work benefits, as well as the portability of assets<br />
and skills, thereby facilitating and enhancing the sustainability of<br />
