Ousmane Sembène
Ousmane Sembène nació en 1923 en Zinguinchor, Casamancia, Senegal. En 1942
sirvió en el cuerpo de soldados senegaleses en el ejército francés. Una vez acabada
la guerra, vivió durante diez años en Marsella, donde trabajó en los muelles
sobre todo como estibador. Empezó a publicar sus primeras novelas en los años
50. En 1961 ingresó en la Escuela de Cine de Moscú. Empeñado en dar a conocer
otra imagen de África, realizó películas marcadas por la crítica social y la política.
Fue uno de los fundadores, en 1969, del Fespaco de Uagadugú, el mayor festival
de cine en África. Falleció en 2007.

Ousmane Sembène was born in Zinguinchor, Casamancia,
Senegal in 1923. In 1942, he served with the Senegalese
Skirmishers in the French Army. Once the war was over, he
lived in Marseille for ten years where he worked mainly as
a docker. He started publishing his first novels in the 50s. In
1961, he entered the Cinema School of Moscow. Determined
to show another vision of Africa, he made films full of social
and political criticism. He was one of the founders, in 1969,
of the FESPACO at Ouagadougou, the largest film festival in
Africa. Ousmane Sembène died in 2007.
Ousmane Sembène est né en 1923 à Ziguinchor, en Casamance
(Sénégal). En 1942, il intègre les tirailleurs sénégalais.
Après la guerre, il vit dix ans à Marseille où il travaille
notamment comme docker. A partir des années 1950, il publie
plusieurs romans. En 1961, il entre à l’école de cinéma de
Moscou. Décidé à transmettre une autre image de l’Afrique, il
réalise des films empreints de critique sociale et politique. En
1969, il fonde le Fespaco de Ouagadougou, un des plus grands
festivals africains de cinéma. Ousmane Sembène est décédé
en 2007.
