Charles Chaplin
Charles Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin nació en Londres en 1889. Subió a los escenarios
por primera vez en 1903. De 1910 a 1912 realizó una gira por Estados Unidos
con la compañía de Fred Karno y decidió permanecer en ese país al contratarle la
empresa Keystone Film. Después de un principio carente de éxitos, no tardó en
convertirse en el actor más famoso del mundo gracias al personaje del vagabundo.
Siguió trabajando con el advenimiento del cine sonoro, pero a partir de 1920
rodó cada vez menos películas. Falleció en 1977 en Suiza.

Charles Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin was born in London in
1889. In 1903 he went on stage for the first time and started
to work as an actor. From 1910 to 1912 he toured the United
States with the Fred Karno troupe and then decided to stay
there. He was hired for by the Keystone Film Company. After
a few failures Chaplin, with his Little Tramp character, quickly
became the most famous film star in the world. He continued
well into the era of the talkies, though his films decreased
in frequency from the end of the 1920s. He died in 1977 in
Switzerland.

En 1903, il monte pour la première fois sur scène et débute
alors sa carrière d’acteur. De 1910 à 1912, il participe à une
tournée aux Etats-Unis dans la troupe de Fred Karno et décide
d’y rester. Là, il est embauché par la société Keystone.
Après quelques tâtonnements, Chaplin, avec son personnage
de vagabond, devient la plus grande star du cinéma dans le
monde. Il continue sa carrière dans le cinéma parlant, mais
la fréquence de ses films baisse à partir de la fin des années
1920. Il meurt en 1977 en Suisse.
