Elkosh<br />

(God my bow), the birthplace of the prophet Nahum, hence called “the Elkoshite.” (Nahum<br />

1:1) This place is located at the modern Alkush, a village on the east bank of the Tigris, about two<br />

miles north of Mosul. Some think a small village in Galilee is intended.<br />

Ellasar<br />

(oak), the city of Arioch, (Genesis 14:1) seems to be the Hebrew representative of the old<br />

Chaldean town called in the native dialect Larsa or Larancha . Larsa was a town of lower Babylonia<br />

or Chaldea, situated nearly halfway between Ur (Mugheir) and Erech (Warka), on the left bank of<br />

the Euphrates. It is now Senkereh.<br />

•Elon the Zebulonite, who judged Israel for ten years, and was buried in Aijalon in Zebulun. (Judges<br />

12:11,12) (B.C. 1174-1164).<br />
