Amikor elkezdtek lôdözni, nagyon megijedtem,
beugrottam a gödörbe. Hát nem ért engem
sehol se golyó, csak egy kicsit kaptam, ami a
másik emberbôl jött át. Olyan fáradt golyó
volt…
Raffael Margit tizennégy éves volt akkor. A kis lány
néhány nap alatt gyalog eljutott Veszprémbe.
Nagyon véres volt a ruha rajtam. Ahogy
mentem a vasút felé, egy szép házból kinézett
egy asszony. Akkor már híre ment, hogy hány
cigányt végeztek ki a nyilasok. Behívott, a véres
ruhámat leszedte rólam, a magáéból
felöltöztetett. Bekötötte a sebemet, bekente
gyógyszerrel, adott nekem pénzt, amivel eljutottam
Gyôrig. Ott volt a nagybátyám, ott
maradtam, aztán onnan mentem férjhez.
Krakovszki Miklósné szemtanú
A városban voltam bevásárolni, egyszer csak
látom, hogy visznek egy csomó cigányt.
Mondom, hová viszik ôket? Azt mondja egy
másik asszony: hajtják ôket a nyilasok dolgozni.
Errefelé hozták ôket, ide, ahol most a tó van. Én
utánuk jöttem, bementem az akácosban, a sûrû
fa közébe. Ott már megásattak velük egy
hossz-hosszú mély árkot (…) Odaállították az
asszonyokat is a szélére, a pólyás a kezükben, a
piciny mellettük, fogta a ruhájukat. Irtózatos
volt, mikor megláttam, hogyan lôtték le ôket
sorban. És ahogy a nyilasok lôtték le ôket, estek
bele az árokba, egy kisgyerek nem halt meg,
akkor odamentek és rálôttek. Én nagyot sikítot-
When they started shooting, I got really scared.
I jumped in the hole. No bullet touched me, I
got a small one only, which came out from
somebody else, sort of a ‘tired’ bullet...
Margit Raffael was fourteen then. She got to
Veszprém on foot in a couple of days.
My dress was full of blood. I was walking
towards the railway station, when I saw a
woman leaning out of the window of a nice
house. By then it was known all around how
many Roma had been killed by the Arrow
Cross men. She invited me in, took my bloodstained
clothes off, gave me her own dress. She
put a bandage on my wound, treated it with
medicine, and gave me money so that I could
go to Gyôr. My uncle living there, and I stayed
there for a while, and then got married.
Miklósné Krakovszki, witness
I went to town to do the shopping, and suddenly
I saw that many Roma were being driven
somewhere. I asked; ‘Where are they taking
them?’ Another woman said: ‘The Arrow Cross
men are taking them to work.’ They brought
them here, where there is this pond now. I followed
them and went in the acacia grove in the
depths of the forest. There they had been already
forced to dig a long, long, deep trench. (...)
Women were sent there to the edge, their baby
in their hand, the smaller children next to them,
clutching their dress. It was horrible to see how
they were shot one by one. And as the Arrow
