In relation <strong>to</strong> thisactual <strong>to</strong>tal number <strong>of</strong> farmers, the 58,766 well-<strong>to</strong>-do andrich farmers represent only 21.1 per cent, i.e., only onefifth.The number <strong>of</strong> “farmers” who own no land is 12.4per cent <strong>of</strong> the <strong>to</strong>tal number <strong>of</strong> farmers in Denmark (1895:32,946 out <strong>of</strong> 265,982), while the farmers who own nolives<strong>to</strong>ck* represent 35.1 per cent <strong>of</strong> the <strong>to</strong>tal number <strong>of</strong>farmers in Denmark, i.e., more than one-third (1898: 98,032out <strong>of</strong> 278,673).
