<strong>Quine</strong>’s cosmic complement is that it is the volume of the entire universe<br />

minus <strong>Quine</strong>’s volume, and so on. It is hard to think of a scientific<br />

use for such an entity, but still it is well defined.<br />

example, questions – but these at least have a propositional content,<br />

which presumably is wholly lacking in observation sentences.<br />
