Knights <strong>of</strong> Pythias fraternal orders, met with <strong>the</strong> Board at Lincoln<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Home on Monday, September 1st. There were about 50 present.<br />

The object <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> meeting was to discuss freely <strong>the</strong> management<br />

<strong>of</strong> our Homes, and we believe much information <strong>of</strong> value was given at<br />

this meeting.<br />

We were especially pleased to have with us on this occasion <strong>the</strong><br />

chairman and Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Odd Fellows' Old Folks' Home Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Trustees; Bro<strong>the</strong>rs L. M. Kagy, J. W. Yantis. P.G.R.; Owen Scott<br />

and Deputy <strong>Grand</strong> Master Warren C. Darnall. Deputy <strong>Grand</strong> Master<br />

Warren C. Darnall and <strong>the</strong> Secretary <strong>of</strong> our Board, J. W. Birney, were<br />

unanimously chosen president and secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fraternal Congress<br />

for <strong>the</strong> coming year. An invitation from <strong>the</strong> Old Folks' Masonic Home<br />

at Sullivan, to meet <strong>the</strong>re in 1914, was accepted.<br />

FERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS MADE DURING THE PAST YEAR.<br />

Many much needed permanent improvements have been made<br />

during <strong>the</strong> past year, to which we wish to direct your attention:<br />

Painting <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wood work on <strong>the</strong> outside <strong>of</strong> all buildings; 472% square<br />

yards <strong>of</strong> cement walks to replace <strong>the</strong> old worn out brick walk; 400 rods<br />

<strong>of</strong> wire fence used largely around <strong>the</strong> eighty-acre tract <strong>of</strong> land bought<br />

recently; ano<strong>the</strong>r 150 ton silo and both filled with 300 tons <strong>of</strong> ensilage<br />

for use <strong>of</strong> our stock; decorating <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> inside walls <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> three<br />

cottages; two new washing machines to replace old machines that<br />

gave out completely; a mangle for use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> laundry; a platform<br />

wagon scale; a 750 barrel cistern; an electric vacuum cleaner; a 130<br />

H. P. Heine water tube boiler; screens for <strong>the</strong> new dormitory; 10 head<br />

<strong>of</strong> Holstein milch cows; 69 head <strong>of</strong> hogs and shoats; electric motor for<br />

use in <strong>the</strong> manual training school; removal <strong>of</strong> books and cases from<br />

<strong>the</strong> corridors <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> main building to <strong>the</strong> east wing, making it a<br />

reading room; a new $350.00 upright piano won by Dr. J. A. Lucas in<br />

a popularity contest and presented by him to <strong>the</strong> Home; 30 hand<br />

painted pictures framed and hung in <strong>the</strong> corridors <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new dormitory<br />

building and presented to <strong>the</strong> Home by Bro<strong>the</strong>r and Sister Charles<br />

W. Keiser and May C. Keiser; $500.00 cash presented ,to <strong>the</strong> Home<br />

by Bro<strong>the</strong>r M. P. Berry, P.G.M., <strong>of</strong> Carthage, with which to purchase<br />

books for <strong>the</strong> day or reading rooms in <strong>the</strong> new dormitory building.<br />

DECORATIONS FOR NEW BUILDING.<br />

The following <strong>Lodge</strong>s have taken <strong>the</strong> rooms in <strong>the</strong> new building<br />

and have paid <strong>the</strong> amount opposite <strong>the</strong>ir names for <strong>the</strong>ir furnishings:<br />
