transient visit beyond <strong>the</strong> said limits, not exceeding <strong>the</strong> aforesaid<br />

period <strong>of</strong> time, shall not be so construed as to work a forfeiture <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

ARTICLE V.<br />

Deputy <strong>Grand</strong> Sire.<br />

Section 1. Duties <strong>of</strong> Deputy <strong>Grand</strong> Sire.—The Deputy <strong>Grand</strong> Sire<br />

shall open and close <strong>the</strong> meetings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Lodge</strong>, support<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> Sire by his advice and assistance, and preside in his absence.<br />

In case <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> removal, death, resignation or inability <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong><br />

Sire, <strong>the</strong> powers and duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> said <strong>of</strong>fice shall devolve on <strong>the</strong><br />

Deputy <strong>Grand</strong> Sire for <strong>the</strong> unexpired term, as provided in Section 3<br />

<strong>of</strong> Article IV.<br />

ARTICLE VI.<br />

<strong>Grand</strong> Secretary.<br />

Section 1. Duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> Secretary.—The <strong>Grand</strong> Secretary shall<br />

make a just and true record <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> proceedings, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sovereign<br />

<strong>Lodge</strong>, keep <strong>the</strong> journal <strong>of</strong> all secret sessions, and preserve and keep<br />

<strong>the</strong> evidences <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> unwritten work, and such alterations as may,<br />

from time to time, be made <strong>the</strong>rein, and all o<strong>the</strong>r records appertaining<br />

to <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order, and <strong>the</strong> explanations and lectures relative<br />

<strong>the</strong>reto: summon <strong>the</strong> members to attend all special meetings; keep<br />

accounts between <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Lodge</strong> and <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> and Subordinate<br />

<strong>Lodge</strong>s and Encampments under its jurisdiction; read all petitions,<br />

reports and communications; write all letters and communications;<br />

carry on. under <strong>the</strong> direction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Lodge</strong> or <strong>Grand</strong> Sire,<br />

its correspondence, and transact such business <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Lodge</strong><br />

appertaining to his <strong>of</strong>fice as may be required <strong>of</strong> him by <strong>the</strong> Sovereign<br />

<strong>Lodge</strong>. All communications transmitted or received by him <strong>of</strong>ficially<br />

shall be laid before <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Lodge</strong>.<br />

ARTICLE VII.<br />

<strong>Grand</strong> Treasurer.<br />

Section 1. Duties <strong>of</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> Treasurer.—The <strong>Grand</strong> Treasurer<br />

shall keep <strong>the</strong> moneys and all securities, choses in action, deeds,<br />

etc., <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sovereign Dodge, and pay all orders drawn on him by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Grand</strong> Secretary. He shall lay before <strong>the</strong> Sovereign Dodge at its<br />

stated communication in September, annually, a full and correct statement<br />

<strong>of</strong> his accounts. Before his installation he shall give a bond,<br />

with at least two sureties, to <strong>the</strong> Sovereign <strong>Lodge</strong>, in such sum as<br />

may, from time to time, be fixed by said body.
