UNFINISHED MATTERS.<br />

Goe<strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 329, situated in <strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Chicago, where <strong>the</strong>re<br />

are more than fifty Subordinate <strong>Lodge</strong>s, had been reported to me as<br />

taking in members for less than <strong>the</strong> constitutional fee. I appointed<br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>r F. W. Chas. Eberhard to investigate this matter and I find<br />

from <strong>the</strong> investigation made, that by some reason unexplainable, <strong>the</strong><br />

Constitution and By-Laws <strong>of</strong> Goe<strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 329 were approved by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Judiciary and Appeals Committee, permitting this <strong>Lodge</strong> to charge<br />

for each degree <strong>the</strong> sum <strong>of</strong> $3.00. See Section 2, Article II, page 2 <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> By-Laws <strong>of</strong> said <strong>Lodge</strong>.<br />

The Constitution and By-Laws submitted to <strong>the</strong> Judiciary and<br />

Appeals Committee, page 2 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> By-Laws, Section 2 <strong>of</strong> Article III,<br />

provides <strong>the</strong> fee for each degree shall be $3.00, making no reference<br />

whatever to Section 3, Article X, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Constitution, which provides<br />

that in cities where <strong>the</strong>re are more than fifty <strong>Lodge</strong>s <strong>the</strong> fee for each<br />

degree shall not be less than $5.00<br />

Goe<strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 329 has not charged $5.00 for each degree as <strong>the</strong><br />

Constitution provides.<br />

Since <strong>the</strong> compilation <strong>of</strong> my original report, I have received a copy<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Constitution and By-Laws <strong>of</strong> Goe<strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 329 in which<br />

is pasted a correction dated Nov. 1, 1913, Sec. 2, Art. II, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> By-Laws,<br />

raising <strong>the</strong> fee to comply with <strong>the</strong> Constitution.<br />

Goe<strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 329 requests to be relieved from any violation<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> law on account <strong>of</strong> this descrepancy in <strong>the</strong>ir Constitution and<br />

By-Laws and I submit <strong>the</strong> matter to this <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong> for consideration.<br />

There are two matters pending that are not in condition to be<br />

reported to this <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong>. The documents connected <strong>the</strong>rewith<br />

I will deliver to my successor in <strong>of</strong>fice, as <strong>the</strong>y simply involve a decision<br />

<strong>of</strong> his, namely:<br />

The matter <strong>of</strong> Robert Blum <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 58, and Mrs. Schaefer.<br />

This case involves <strong>the</strong> matter <strong>of</strong> funeral benefits where <strong>the</strong> bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />

died in <strong>the</strong> Old Folks' Home.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r case, complaint has been made to me as <strong>Grand</strong> Master,<br />

that several bro<strong>the</strong>rs, members <strong>of</strong> Edgewood <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 959 are guilty<br />

<strong>of</strong> conduct unbecoming Odd Fellows. I referred <strong>the</strong> matter to W. W.<br />

Yeek, Director <strong>of</strong> Work, at Flora, <strong>Illinois</strong>, as my Special Deputy; and<br />

have received only a partial report from him in regard <strong>the</strong>reto. These<br />

documents I will also deliver to my successor in <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

REINSTATEMENT.<br />

Since <strong>the</strong> compilation <strong>of</strong> my original report, Bro<strong>the</strong>r W. B. Jones,<br />

a' former expelled bro<strong>the</strong>r, has been reinstated in Odin <strong>Lodge</strong> No. 866,<br />

I. O. O. F., Odin, <strong>Illinois</strong>.<br />

JOHN E. JENNINGS.<br />
