Dear Bro<strong>the</strong>r Jennings—Complying with your request for an early<br />

report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> League for <strong>the</strong> past year, I beg to submit<br />

for your approval <strong>the</strong> following report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> present condition <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

League, and a general report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> work accomplished during <strong>the</strong><br />

past year.<br />

I am pleased to be able to say that <strong>the</strong> Organization is prospering,<br />

and that <strong>the</strong> work is constantly increasing. You will note from <strong>the</strong><br />

figures as stated in this report, that <strong>the</strong> variety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cases taken care<br />

<strong>of</strong> is greater than ever. We endeavor to give each case our prompt<br />

and personal attention, and thus bring about satisfactory results.<br />

I am pleased to report that <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> Subordinate and<br />

Rebekah <strong>Lodge</strong>s in Cook county are very prompt and liberal in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

support, <strong>the</strong>re are but very few <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong>s that do not pay <strong>the</strong><br />

ten cents per member a year as requested by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> Master.<br />

The <strong>of</strong>fice furniture, etc., is in a very good condition; several<br />

improvements have been made during <strong>the</strong> year.<br />

The receipts from all sources during <strong>the</strong> past year were $1,963.86,<br />

and disbursements for <strong>the</strong> same period, $1,648.94; 216 Bro<strong>the</strong>rs, 24<br />

Sisters, 10 sons and 7 daughters <strong>of</strong> Odd Fellows applied for employment;<br />

175 letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation were given, 136 <strong>of</strong> whom re-<br />

ported having secured positions. These applicants represented 21<br />

states, and several jurisdictions in Canada. 247 Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and Sisters,<br />

representing 32 states and Canada, were reported sick, dead or injured.<br />

These were cared for by <strong>the</strong> League, or referred to <strong>the</strong> nearest local<br />

<strong>Lodge</strong>. 72 Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and Sisters, representing 23 states and Canada,<br />

applied for and were given financial relief amounting to $1,607.13, <strong>of</strong><br />

which $1,581.33 were paid back to <strong>the</strong> League. 32 requisitions were<br />

issued for reduced rates on hospitals; 25 nurses were furnished at<br />

reduced rates; 8 members referred to <strong>the</strong> Legal Board; 14 Bro<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

reported missing, several <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se were located through <strong>the</strong> efforts<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> League. Several <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> above mentioned cases have taken<br />

days and weeks to conclude, but as <strong>the</strong> result we have had <strong>the</strong> pleasure<br />

<strong>of</strong> seeing Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and Sisters benefitted <strong>the</strong>reby.<br />

We greatly appreciate <strong>the</strong> many courtesies extended us by <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Grand</strong> Master, and feel confident that your successor will do <strong>the</strong> same.<br />
