TU da GRAND LODGE OF ILLINOIS, I. O. O. F.<br />

Klov l| i913 ! 83<br />

Since <strong>the</strong> holding <strong>of</strong> this meeting in Lincoln, I am creditably<br />

informed that <strong>the</strong> Masonic fraternity in <strong>Illinois</strong>, has provided an<br />

appropriation <strong>of</strong> $50,000.00 with which to construct an isolated hospital<br />

building in connection with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Masonic Home at Sullivan,<br />

111., <strong>the</strong>refore in <strong>the</strong> future <strong>the</strong> matter <strong>of</strong> a hospital will be eliminated<br />

from <strong>the</strong> meetings <strong>of</strong> this association, <strong>the</strong> next one <strong>of</strong> which will be<br />

held at Sullivan, at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Masonic Home.<br />

The meetings <strong>of</strong> this association accomplish great good in bringing<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> superintendents and matrons <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> various fraternal<br />

homes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> state and in <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> time avails each superintendent<br />

and matron with <strong>the</strong> privilege <strong>of</strong> visiting and inspecting <strong>the</strong> homes<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r fraternal Orders.<br />

Your <strong>Grand</strong> Master approves <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se meetings and recommends<br />

that <strong>the</strong> superintendents and matrons <strong>of</strong> both our homes attend <strong>the</strong><br />

next meeting <strong>of</strong> this, association.<br />

ODD FELLOWS' LEAGUE AND RELIEF BOARD.<br />

At one time <strong>the</strong>re were two separate Odd Fellows' concerns in Chicago<br />

that undertook to relieve transient Bro<strong>the</strong>rs. They were combined<br />

a few years ago and now exist as <strong>the</strong> "Odd Fellows' League and<br />

Relief Board," <strong>of</strong> which Bro. J. W. Jackson is President and Col. Harold<br />

A. Jensen is Secretary, and <strong>the</strong>ir headquarters are Room 49, 54 W.<br />

Randolph St.. Chicago, <strong>Illinois</strong>.<br />

By direction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong>, this Odd Fellows' League and<br />

Relief Board assumes <strong>the</strong> duty <strong>of</strong> caring for distressed Bro<strong>the</strong>rs and<br />

Sisters in Cook county and especially in <strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Chicago, that<br />

arrive <strong>the</strong>re from o<strong>the</strong>r jurisdictions.<br />

It is with pleasure that I can recommend <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> this board.<br />

I have visited <strong>the</strong>ir quarters and <strong>the</strong> President and Secretary have<br />

shown me <strong>the</strong> records <strong>of</strong> many cases where <strong>the</strong>y have been <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

greatest value to <strong>the</strong> distressed members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fraternity.<br />

In my <strong>of</strong>ficial communication <strong>of</strong> July 15, I said: "I desire to call<br />

<strong>the</strong> attention <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lodge</strong>s <strong>of</strong> Cook county to <strong>the</strong>ir obligation to<br />

support <strong>the</strong> Odd Fellows' League and Relief Board. I also desire to<br />

remind every o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Lodge</strong> in <strong>the</strong> State that a small contribution to<br />

this Relief Board would be a splendid aid to <strong>the</strong> Relief Board in Chicago<br />

and to <strong>the</strong> honor and <strong>the</strong> credit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> country everywhere."<br />

The necessity for <strong>the</strong> above suggestion is as great now as <strong>the</strong>n.<br />

Nothing advances <strong>the</strong> interest <strong>of</strong> our Order as thoroughly and satisfactorily<br />

as <strong>the</strong> relief <strong>of</strong> distress and it is with pleasure that I sub<br />

mit <strong>the</strong> report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Odd Fellows' League and Relief Board, recently<br />

filed in my <strong>of</strong>fice:
