I have sent Henry A. Stone, <strong>of</strong> Vandalia, to Shawneetown, and A. E.<br />

Eden to Cairo, with power to relieve <strong>the</strong> distressed, sent your contribu-<br />

tion to John H. Sikes, Springfield, 111.<br />

Thereupon your <strong>Grand</strong> Master issued <strong>the</strong> following appeal for aid:<br />

Appeal For Flood Sufferers.<br />

Sullivan, 111., March 31, 1913.<br />

To <strong>the</strong> Fraternity <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong>,<br />

Dear Bro<strong>the</strong>rs:—A great calamity has befallen our Order in Illi-<br />

nois and in neighboring jurisdictions. Help is needed.<br />

There is much suffering, want and distress. Our Fraternity is<br />

always ready to releive distress.<br />

Special relief has been sent to Shawneetown and Cairo and to<br />

Columbus, Ohio.<br />

Send your contributions to John H. Sikes, <strong>Grand</strong> Secretary, Spring-<br />

field, <strong>Illinois</strong>, for <strong>the</strong> relief <strong>of</strong> suffering caused by <strong>the</strong> floods.<br />

On March 30, I sent <strong>the</strong> following telegrams to Governor E. F.<br />

Dunne:<br />

I am sending with Co. C, Fourth Regiment, National Guards, Mr. A..<br />

E. Eden, as my personal representative, with power to expend one<br />

thousand dollars for <strong>the</strong> relief <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> flood sufferers at Cairo. Wire<br />

me if more relief is needed.<br />
