Some applications as a whole were not allowed, for we could not<br />

consider <strong>the</strong>m objects <strong>of</strong> charity an d<strong>the</strong>y were not suffering for neces-<br />

sities <strong>of</strong> life.<br />

Where applicants had received cash donations from o<strong>the</strong>r sources,<br />

<strong>the</strong> amount was deducted from <strong>the</strong> amount allowed.<br />

We made no allowance for <strong>the</strong> destruction <strong>of</strong> growing crops, as<br />

this could not be considered any more than loss by drouth or o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

natural causes.<br />

We have endeavored to be just and fair with every bro<strong>the</strong>r, and<br />

regret that <strong>the</strong> percentage might not have been 100 cents on every<br />

dollar <strong>of</strong> loss.<br />

Trusting our efforts may meet <strong>the</strong> approval <strong>of</strong> every applicant, and<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>Grand</strong> Master, we beg to remain,<br />

Your committee desire to express <strong>the</strong>ir appreciation and thanks<br />

to you for <strong>the</strong> confidence reposed in us by placing this relief work<br />

within our discretion, and for <strong>the</strong> help and advice received from you.<br />

The task has not been an easy one, but it was a labor <strong>of</strong> Love. We<br />

have done in every case what we considered was right and just to <strong>the</strong><br />

Bro<strong>the</strong>rhood interested, and for <strong>the</strong> "Good <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Order." We trust<br />

that it may meet with your sanction and approval.<br />

On April 28th, 1913. on account <strong>of</strong> additional information from <strong>the</strong><br />

Shawn eetown Committee, that two o<strong>the</strong>r Bro<strong>the</strong>rs (not heret<strong>of</strong>ore reported)<br />

were found to be in distress, and recommended relief be ex-<br />

tended to <strong>the</strong>m, I issued additional checks on First National Bank <strong>of</strong>
