A washingtoni külügyminisztérium már a múlt héten szégyenteljesnek nevezte a konferencia
összehívását. Norbert Lammert, a német Bundestag elnöke Ahmadinezsádhoz írott hétfi levelében
"nyomatékosan elítélt minden kísérletet, amely a tudomány szabadsága és a tárgyilagosság
ürügyén nyilvános fórumot biztosít az antiszemita propagandának". A Német Szociáldemokrata
Párt (SPD) ugyancsak tiltakozott a rendezvény ellen. "Minden holokauszttagadó az ellenségünk" -
hangsúlyozta Hubertus Heil, az SPD ftitkára. Morisz Motamed, a teheráni parlament egyetlen
zsidó képviselje mérhetetlen sértésnek nevezte a konferenciát.
A második világháborúban a németek hatmillió zsidót öltek meg. A holokauszt tagadása
Európa több országában börtönnel büntethet. David Irving brit "revizionista" történészt az év
elején egy osztrák bíróság három év börtönre ítélte, mert védelmébe vette azt a tézist, amely
szerint a holokauszt adatait "ersen eltúlozták".

Hungarian activist attends "Holocaust denial" conference

According to fn.hu, an activist of far-right group Conscience '88 (Lelkiismeret '88)
attended a two-day Holocaust denial conference held in Iran on Monday and Tuesday.
The organizers of the conference said the aim of the event is to determine the "real
scale" of the Holocaust. More than sixty "researchers" from thirty countries were invited, but the
names of attendees are kept secret by Tehran authorities, claiming that otherwise their countries
would withdraw their passports. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a known Holocaust
denier.
The press could still find out the names of some of the attendees, which include the
American David Duke - a former leader of the Ku Klux Klan, who recently visited Hungary - the
French Robert Faurisson and Georges Thiel, who have been convicted for Holocaust denial,
and the Australian Fredrick Töben, who spent several months in a German prison for stirring up
racism. At the conference, Töben held a lecture entitled "The Holocaust: The Weapon of Sin,"
in which he said that not more than 2,000 people were killed at the Auschwitz concentration
camp.
Fn.hu contacted Conscience '88, but the group refused to reveal the name of the activist
attending the conference.
