Iran to hold anti-Israeli conference in Tehran
Tehran (dpa) - Iran is to hold an anti-Israeli conference in mid-April this year in Tehran, Iranian
media reported Sunday.
The Qods conference will deal with the latest developments in Israel and Palestine with
several international scholars scheduled to attend.
It is however unclear whether the Qods conference will replace the scheduled Holocaust
conference by the Iranian Foreign Ministry in spring or is a separate meeting.
The head of the conference will be Ali-Akbar Mohtashamipur, who used to serve as
interior minister in the 1980s and also known as a co-founder of the Lebanese militia group
Hezbollah during his tenure as ambassador to Syria.
Mohtashamipur will brief the press on Monday on the details of the conference.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has caused international uproar after he
expressed the hope for the eradication of Israel from Islamic world, called on relocation of the
Jewish state to Europe and America and eventually doubted the extent of the Holocaust, calling
it a "fairy tale."
Iran Holds "Holocaust Myth" Conference
Julie Farby - All Headline News Staff Writer
Tehran, Iran (AHN)—At the behest of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a state-run
Iranian university held a Holocaust-denial conference this week. The conference, entitled
"Holocaust: Myth or Reality," was held at Isfahan University, and attended by students and
faculty.
Alireza Soltanshahi, a representative of Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who
heads the Presidential Office for the Study of the Palestinian Issue, addressed the gathering,
telling participants that the Holocaust myth has turned into an industry for the Zionists to gain
money.
At the Isfahan conference, Soltanshahi also blasted the Zionist regime for what he termed
its attempts to show that the Holocaust is real through various methods, such as establishing
institutions to propagate its memory and offering literary prizes to people who write about the
subject.
According to the report, Ahmadinejad, who came to power in a surprise election victory
last June, has provoked international outrage in recent months by labeling the Holocaust a myth
and calling for Israel to be wiped off the map.
