The Associated Press is one of the world’s oldest and biggest global news agencies. It was established in
1847. It still has 80 offices around the world and supplies close to 500 news centers with an average of 2200
pieces of “original news” a year.
An AP news article headline on December 11th read: “Iran hosted Holocaust deniers from around the
world Monday at a conference examining whether the Nazi genocide took place.” (1) What a sentence! If an
event is found worthy of investigation and is investigated, can a presupposed “denial” be talked about
In his opening address the Iranian Foreign Minister Manucer Mottaki said, “The purpose of this
conference is not to deny or acknowledge the genocide; it is to give an opportunity to thinkers who can not freely
express their assessments regarding genocide in Europe and to create an environment where different ideas can
be expressed regarding an historical event.” Moreover, “Enmity against the Jews is totally a Western
phenomenon. A phenomenon like anti-Semitism was never seen in Islamic countries.” Is the man right He’s
right. But who listens In the following days there was distortion, defamation, threat and everything else!
Doomsday!
One of the first shouts of protest came from the American Anti-Defamation League whose founding
purpose is “to stop slander aimed at the Jewish nation by resorting to intelligence, conscience and, if necessary,
the law.” According to the ADL, “There is no room in the family of nations for denial of genocide, and
European and world leaders should condemn the essence of this conference – anti-Semitism.” I want to draw
your attention to the fact that the ADL was founded in October, 1913, in America long before any claims of
genocide. It is a defender of Zionism powerful enough to abrogate in 1991 the UN General Assembly decision
3379 which was made in November, 1975, to the effect that Zionism “is a kind of racism and racial segregation.”
While the ADL is shouting, can Kofi Annan keep quiet Of course, not. He, too, joined the “family of
nations” and condemned “investigating or denying the genocide.” Look at how “investigating and denying” have
been equalized! Annan continued, “Regardless of which religion they belong to, people with good intentions
should resist any initiative to cast a shadow on this unequaled, undeniable, terrifying truth.” The phrase,
“regardless of which religion they belong to, people with good intentions,” is fully an Annan definition. It
means: Even if you are Muslim, if you are good-intentioned, you cannot investigate the Jewish genocide.
In light of this, we can say that German psychologist Bendikt Frings was one of the 67 “ill-intentioned”
people from 30 countries participating in the Tehran Conference. He stated, “I have waited for something like
this since my childhood,” and saying, “We are prohibited from holding a conference like this in Germany,” he
thanked Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. Another “ill-intentioned” participant was Dr. Gerald
Frederick Toben, founding chairman of the Adelaide Institute, which began functioning in 1994 in Austria. The
institute’s first name was “Real Mission.” Toben and his circle assert that they have serious doubts about the
veracity of genocide claims, that the existence of gas rooms in Auschwitz is not certain, and that some Jews
gained either monetarily or otherwise by exaggerating the number and conditions of Jews that died in the Second
World War. And they publish documents to support their claims. In 1999 Toben was sentenced to 10 months
imprisonment in Germany due to the institute’s web site. After serving seven years, he was released on a 5,000
dollar bond, but in the case that the crime is repeated, he will have to serve five more years. Dr. Toben is also
grateful to Ahmedinejad for opening to discussion a subject that has “crippled the morality and mental faculties
of Western society.” “In Germany people are imprisoned for denying the genocide.” According to Toben’s
findings, looking at the capacity of the German railroads during those years is in itself enough to prove that the
number of dead in the Auschwitz camp is not in the proportions it is claimed to be.
Another participant, Professor Robert Faurisson, is one of the prominent persons in circles advocating
that the genocide issue be reviewed and corrected. He was born in England with a French father and Scottish
mother. Like most French after the Second World War, he was anti-German. After reading writers like Paul
Rassinier ad Maurice Bardeche, he began to question the genocide. By the way, historian, writer and leftist,
Rassinier is known as the “Father of Genocide Revisionism.” He is anti-war and a pacifist. In spite of this, when
his country was invaded, he fought together with the resistance, fell captive and stayed in the Nazis’ Buchenwald
and Mittelbau-Dora camps. After the War, he wrote hundreds of articles explaining that the genocide was not as
it was shown to be. After investigation that even their enemies found to be long and in-depth, Rassinier’s
“student” Faurisson decided towards the end of the 1970’s that the genocide was a hoax and he began writing on
it. Together with Ernst Zundel of German origin and Swedish Ditlieb Felderer, they began to investigate the
existence of the gas rooms. Faurisson was thrown out of the university in a manner that would have caused
people to rebel had it happened in Turkey. He barely escaped lynching and was imprisoned five times. In Tehran
he said he had been waiting “32 years for someone to show me those gas rooms.” It is his opinion that the Nazis
had no intention of exterminating the Jewish race.
Let Iranian officials say as often as they want that their aim was to “discuss the genocide in a scientific
meeting removed from the West’s taboos and the restrictions on academicians in Europe” and that even
discussion of the subject is forbidden in Germany, Austria and France. The AP was determined to distort and
bury the subject. It did not neglect to use a reductive style while giving the news: “The conference fit in with
Ahmadinejad's policy of seeking to cast Iran as an alternative power to the West — in politics, science and
