tion <strong>of</strong> half-a-p<strong>in</strong>t to two gallons <strong>of</strong> water. <strong>The</strong> walls<br />

should be limewashed, <strong>and</strong> all <strong>the</strong> cloths, headstalls,<br />

<strong>and</strong> halters destroyed, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> iron-work pa<strong>in</strong>ted. We<br />

have already said that we cannot f<strong>in</strong>d a well-au<strong>the</strong>nticated<br />

case <strong>of</strong> cure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> gl<strong>and</strong>ers. H<strong>in</strong>de says : " Gl<strong>and</strong>ers<br />

has been cured spontaneously on a largp scale, under his<br />

own <strong>in</strong>spection solely by regular <strong>and</strong> good liv<strong>in</strong>g, a f<strong>in</strong>e<br />

seaside country <strong>and</strong> moderate work be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> only<br />

adjuncts, with such an auxiliary as Venice turpent<strong>in</strong>e<br />

diftused <strong>in</strong> steam up <strong>the</strong> nostrils have removed recent<br />

cases <strong>of</strong> gl<strong>and</strong>ers, where<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> skankers were already<br />

visible, <strong>the</strong> discharge foetid, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> gl<strong>and</strong>er hard <strong>and</strong><br />

fixed. To apply this remedy make a bran mash hot <strong>in</strong><br />

which is mixed <strong>the</strong> turpent<strong>in</strong>e, attach this to <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>horse</strong>'s head by means <strong>of</strong> a nose bag, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> a quarter<br />

<strong>of</strong> an hour renew <strong>the</strong> heat by means <strong>of</strong> a pailful <strong>of</strong><br />

hot water <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> bag is to be partially immersed,<br />

afterwards cover <strong>the</strong> body, head, <strong>and</strong> neck, so as to<br />

promote perspiration ; but if it does not come on by<br />

<strong>the</strong>se means, cover <strong>the</strong> body first <strong>in</strong> a blanket that<br />

has been immersed <strong>in</strong> hot water <strong>and</strong> wrung out, rub<br />

dry, cover up, <strong>and</strong> repeat <strong>the</strong> same daily. In all such<br />

cases we have given salt <strong>in</strong> every way <strong>the</strong> patient
