GENERAL BLINDNESS AND IMPERFECT<br />

VISION.<br />

No subject is <strong>of</strong> greater importance than <strong>the</strong> state<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> organs <strong>of</strong> vision <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>horse</strong>, which ought to<br />

occupy <strong>the</strong> first attention <strong>of</strong> a purchaser. Bl<strong>in</strong>dness or<br />

a partial defect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eyes <strong>of</strong>ten leads to many unpleasant<br />

consequences to <strong>the</strong> proprietor, whe<strong>the</strong>r he is rid<strong>in</strong>g or<br />

driv<strong>in</strong>g. It requires considerable knowledge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

anatomical construction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eye to enable anyone to<br />

judge correctly <strong>of</strong> its perfection or defects ; <strong>and</strong> I am<br />

first prize <strong>in</strong> consequence <strong>of</strong> cataract <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> eye. This<br />

is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most difficult diseases <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eye for a<br />

practical man to detect, <strong>and</strong> unless <strong>the</strong> practitioner is<br />

himself blessed with good eyesight, <strong>and</strong> has been taught<br />

by a thoroughly practical man how to st<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> how<br />

to place <strong>the</strong> <strong>horse</strong>'s eyes to <strong>the</strong> light, <strong>the</strong> chances are<br />

that he will pass <strong>the</strong> <strong>horse</strong> as sound while it is <strong>in</strong><br />
