man. Coper No. 2 look<strong>in</strong>g after <strong>the</strong>m <strong>and</strong> hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

his pockets some weighted balls, which he takes care to<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r class <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong> sharks <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>horse</strong> l<strong>in</strong>e, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>y<br />

are as dangerous as <strong>the</strong> common coper. <strong>The</strong>se are <strong>the</strong><br />

gu<strong>in</strong>ea hunters, or gentlemen who buy <strong>horse</strong>s on<br />

commission. Many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m when <strong>the</strong>y know a gentleman<br />

is <strong>in</strong> want <strong>of</strong> a certa<strong>in</strong> class <strong>of</strong> <strong>horse</strong> will go to a<br />

fair or to some coper, <strong>and</strong> buy a good-look<strong>in</strong>g screw<br />

for a few pounds; <strong>the</strong>y will <strong>the</strong>n send it to st<strong>and</strong> at<br />

livery at some respectable livery <strong>stable</strong>. Coper No. 2<br />

is aga<strong>in</strong> called <strong>in</strong>, but this time he takes <strong>the</strong> part <strong>of</strong> a<br />

gentleman, <strong>and</strong> Mr. Commission-hunter <strong>in</strong>troduces Mr.<br />

Flat to Mr. Sharp, who soon sells him a miserable<br />

screw, Mr. Commission tak<strong>in</strong>g his share <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

plunder, <strong>and</strong> depart<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> peace. When <strong>the</strong> <strong>horse</strong><br />

arrives <strong>in</strong> Mr. Flat's <strong>stable</strong>, <strong>the</strong>y f<strong>in</strong>d that if <strong>the</strong>y<br />

have bought a <strong>horse</strong> <strong>the</strong>y <strong>the</strong>mselves have been sold.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re is still ano<strong>the</strong>r class who are <strong>the</strong> most heartless<br />

<strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> <strong>horse</strong> cop<strong>in</strong>g tribe ; <strong>the</strong>y are men who sell<br />

<strong>horse</strong>s upon commission. If <strong>the</strong>y have a wealthy man<br />

<strong>the</strong>y will sell his <strong>horse</strong> fairly, because <strong>the</strong>y th<strong>in</strong>k <strong>the</strong>y<br />

can make him pay, but let a man who has come down<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world <strong>and</strong> is forced to sell his <strong>horse</strong> <strong>and</strong>
