'utilization standards applied to trees designated for cutt<strong>in</strong>g were:<br />

Conventional utilization -- removal of green and recently dead logs from sawtimber<br />

trees 9" (23 cm) and larger d.b.h. ; utilization to 5" (13 cm) top, and 1/3 or more<br />

sound.<br />

Close util ization -- removal of a1 1 green and dead sawlog material if sound enough to<br />

skid; removal of all submerchantable trees 1" (2.5 cm) and larger <strong>in</strong> d.b.h., tree<br />

length (hand bunched prior to skidd<strong>in</strong>g).<br />
